Five years back at this time I was...
Five years back I was working with Tata Consultancy Services, the software technology services giant in India for one of their major multinational clients. This was a major step in my career because until then I was working as a course designer only. But with the client I got exposure to entire gamut of L&D activities because we were handling change management for them. This was a major leap in my career and I am very thankful that I got a change to work in such a project. I also attribute the leap to the fact that I was trying for such a role for quite sometime and even did a certification in L&D to upgrade my skills from a course designer to a larger L& D area.
My typical day looks like...
I divide my time in the day for the different assignments I am committed to. My primary area of work is as head content platform creation for GetAConnect. Within it, I have to allot time to different areas that I handle. The first half of the day is usually focused on getting in touch with potential course creators, scheduling demo calls etc. However, there are days when the most urgent task takes precedence over others.
Apart from this, I write and teach spoken English too. So, time management is one thing that I have to practice earnestly. Everything gets done with proper planning and prioritizing.
The BEST part of working in my company/role is...
That I get to meet and talk to different people all of who belong to something I am passionate about- Training function.
The most Important skills I use daily in my job are...
The skills I most use in my daily work is being a communicator. I communicate when I have to talk to potential course creators. I communicate when I write. As an English language coach too I have to deal with people who come to me because they are struggling with something. Ability to strike a chord with people through writing or spoken words has been an integral skill that I use daily. I am enjoying the process and learning new things every day in my job.
When and How I chose my long term career choice...
When I got into course designing it was because I always had a flair for writing. Once I entered there, slowly I saw that there is a vast world out there that I could explore. Eventually, I realized that what i was doing was just part of a larger function. I enjoyed all the roles and was ready to explore. I did a certification in instructional design and learning and development even though in job interviews on job experience was deemed enough. I did an MBA too when I realized an understanding of management is useful to work in the corporate world. Today, within my area I am pursuing diverse opportunities.
One of the silliest things we do about career is...
To lose patience and think things happen overnight.

One thing I wish I had when I chose my career...
I lost sometime searching for a job in Economics. I was clearly inclined towards writing but I didnt recognize it then.
